We Want It All

50 years after the First Things First Manifesto was written, I considered my role as a contributor to the graphic design profession and the culture we help create. This 24 page booklet contains over 1,000 words of my thoughts about design. The design elements form, shape and space support the design principles contrast, movement and balance.

The thick and thin lines of the booklet demonstrate contrast, while the large and small shapes of the type create movement as one’s eyes scan the page. The space between and around the type creates a strong visual balance within the piece, looking symmetrical with a touch of asymmetry in the larger type (that is two different typefaces). The communication purpose of this piece is to inform the viewer of my stance on design.
