Why is Branding So Important?

Do you own a business or a product that you market to a target audience? What does your branding say about you? Why is branding so important? We’re going to dive into these questions so your brand can find more success this year. Branding is the opportunity to tell YOUR storylet’s talk about how.

Hi, I’m Caroline – the designer and owner of Ellingboe Design. Branding is my bread and butter, and this blog has been specifically crafted to inform you about the importance of your brand presence. Upon first glance, your branding should spark the curiosity of any viewer. Ideally, it should engage your target audience, client or consumer. How is this done? Through intentional and well-executed design. Anyone with a smart phone or computer can create a logo—however, not everyone has the skillset to analyze the fundamentals of your brand and visually express those ideals through the combination of typography, icons and imagery. Enter: the brand designer.

The brand designer deep dives into the bones of your business: your mission, your vision, and your goals as the first step to designing your logo. Did you know? Your brand does not just consist of your logo. It consists of your primary logo, secondary logo, abbreviated logo, typography, color palette, supporting brand graphics, etc! There’s SO much more to branding than just the main logo on display. If you’re wondering what makes successful brands thrive on social media or in the market of stores or online, I’ll tell you—consistent branding with depth. The consistent use of brand guidelines or standards is what makes such a huge impact on target audiences. Adhering to these brand guidelines and having extensive brand assets is what elevates successful brands to the top.

Let’s start with the main branding element—the logo. Your logo should guide viewers to information regarding your business or product, without them having to deep dive. Whether that be through typography or an icon or an image, viewers will give something their attention for a matter of seconds before deciding to engage or to move on. If you have a logo, currently, I want you to ask yourself: does my logo represent my business? Do I like the way it looks? Is there anything about my logo I wish was different? Does something seem “off” or does it look like all the others in my industry? Whether you answered yes or no to any of these questions, I want to tell you something to reassure you—building a brand doesn’t happen overnight. But a successful brand can be built with the right tools and process.
